Its name is due to the well-known traditional game of the same name: Simon says, from where it is inspired.

Inspired by Atari's original Touch Me game (1974), Ralph Baer designed for the company Milton-Bradley (1978) a circular game console that turned on lights and emitted sounds that the player had to repeat in the same sequence that the game was delivering, Pressing large colored keys.
