Simon is an arcade Memory GameSimon
Simon is an electronic arcade game created by Ralph Baer and Howard J. Morrison in 1978. It had a great success during the 80's. It has disc shape, on one of its faces you can see four quadrants, each with a color: green, red , Blue and yellow in its original version. Its name is due to the well-known traditional game of the same name: Simon says, from where it is inspired.
Simon is an arcade game to play with three or more people (often children). One of the participants is the so-called "Simon", that is, the one who directs the action. The others must do what Simon says.
Simon is a fun arcade game that helps you exercise your hearing skills. This game is simple, but can quickly become a challenge, especially if you play with a large group. Although this game has many other names around the world, the fun and rules are often the same everywhere.
Inspired by Atari's original Touch Me game (1974), Ralph Baer designed for the company Milton-Bradley (1978) a circular game console that turned on lights and emitted sounds that the player had to repeat in the same sequence that the game was delivering, Pressing large colored keys. The essence of the game centered on the player's ability to retain in his memory the sequence of lights that went on one after another and then repeat them in a correct and orderly manner. Hit all the pulsations caused an advance in the game where a sound and a new color were added to press on the next move. Mistaking the key during the routine caused a very particular and unpleasant sound that indicated the defeat and the end of the arcade game.
It seems very simple, very elemental, very basic and even boring or monotonous. However, this game remains in force after more than thirty years of having entered the market. You will find it in any Internet sales portal with different names, but all advertisers aim at the same goal: to test your ability to memorize events.
The Simon is a purely educational game and mental gymnastics that has only been surpassed by the Tetris in terms of exercise of the mind. If we deviate to other types of games more related to banal leisure, this toy could be somewhat boring as we mentioned at the beginning.
