Create a tally and display resultsSimple Tally Chrome Extension Documentation
Purpose: This chrome extension allows the user to create a personalized tally which allows him/her to track his/her tally through a single 9-hour session (representing a typical shift). The tally also stores the data (in HTML5 localStorage) and allows the user to view his previous tally record through three different granularities: Hour/Day/Month.
UI: A user is prompted to enter his/her session goal (representing daily metrics) when using the extension for the first time in a given date (or 9 hour period). The value defaults to 150.
Clicking the Browser Action Icon (tally symbol which represents the extension) increments the value of the tally by 1 and also displays the tally page, which displays more information (covered in detail in the Browser Icon Popup View section). The user is encouraged to use the Keyboard Shortcut: “Ctrl+Shift+I” in order to increment the tally, without activating the browser action (this ultimately saves the user time).
The Browser Icon Popup contains three UI elements, mainly three buttons: [Day], [Month], [View].
[Day] : Displays the tally count within a given date per granularity of Hour. This allows the user to view his/her performance throughout the day in greater detail, and see the peaks and valleys of productivity in the given day.
[Month]: Displays all of the dates in a given month during which the user has implemented the tally extension, and displays the totals for those dates. The Date Items are Clickable, which allows the user to click on the text representing the given date and see his tally history per granularity of Hour.
[Year]: Displays all of the months in a given year during which the user has implemented the tally extension, and displays the totals for those dates. The Month Items are Clickable, which allows the user to click on the text representing the given date and see his tally history per granularity of Day.
Browser Icon Popup View : The Browser Icon Popup (triggered when a user clicks the Browser Action Icon) displays several useful bits of information to the user : Current Date, Session Tally Value, Session Goal, Left_Until_Goal, and Total_This_Hour.
Current Date: Displayed at the very top of the Browser Action Popup.
Number: Displays the Session Tally Value which tracks the tally value in the current session
Session Goal: Displays the user’s custom goal for the given session (entered by user via JavaScript prompt when a user uses the extension for the first time in a given date).
Left Until Goal: Displays the number of tally clicks which are left until the user reaches his/her session goal.
Total This Hour: Represents the number of times the tally has been incremented in the current hour.
