Extension formats the updated 'classic' & new Google Maps URL so when emailed to an Android device opens in Google Maps for Android. When Google updated Google Maps, both the 'classic' and new UI, they removed the ability to properly send a Google Maps URL to an Android device. By "properly send" I mean the ability to with a few clicks send a Google Maps link (URL) to an Android device that when opened will open the Google Maps for Android application and allow for viewing/navigation.
This extension was built for one purpose, sending Google Maps destination links to Android devices. Destination links are Google Maps links that do not provide an initial source address/coordinates, but rather the destination address/coordinates. Destination links are useful if you want to send a link for someone to follow from their location to say your location or a destination address.
In addition to the destination map link a static image of the destination in question is included in the email, one image from Google Maps and the other from Bing Maps. The map image from Bing Maps is included due to road names of rural areas being available from Bing/Nokia Maps and not yet included in Google Maps.
This extension is an adaptation of code from Google's Sample Extensions page. It was created for volunteer and non-profit agencies (fire departments, police departments, etc) to send destination links to Android devices used in the field.
