Math lesson app for teaching unit conversions. Video instruction, worked examples, guided practice, and instructor notes. To download all of Grade 6 for Windows or Mac, see https://guzintamath.com/downloads/guzintamath6.html.
For one-on-one or whole-class mathematics instruction, use this Guzinta Math lesson as a supplement for teaching measurement conversions using ratios and area formulas for parallelograms, triangles, and trapezoids--key concepts in 6th grade.
NEW 5.0 version contains a slicker look, an exploratory module on converting measurements using ratio reasoning, and extra questions which appear progressively over 3 weeks from starting the app.
The app includes the popular Practice Meter feature, which can keep track of each student's practice level for this app across sessions. The purpose of the Practice Meter is to motivate students to come back and revisit this content and complete modules at regular intervals. Revisit the lesson app to keep your Practice Meter out of the red (or in the blue). It becomes easier over time to maintain your practice level above the key levels of 80 or 25, because the meter depletes much more slowly after a week, then a month, then 3 months, has passed.
This math lesson app also includes a NOTES feature: helpful tips for students, self-explanation questions, further information, and even suggestions for extension or family involvement.
Guzinta Math: Measurement Conversions focuses on using ratios to convert from one unit of measure to another. Students are encouraged to use visuals, multiplication or division, and equivalent ratios to solve conversion problems. A lesson on area focuses on simply applying area formulas for parallelograms, triangles, and trapezoids, and composite figures, and a lesson on histograms focuses on the key features of that data display as well as concepts around interpreting data displayed in histograms.
For one-on-one or whole-class mathematics instruction, use this Guzinta Math lesson as a supplement for teaching measurement conversions using ratios and area formulas for parallelograms, triangles, and trapezoids--key concepts in 6th grade. The app includes detailed instructor notes for each guided practice problem, with notes about extending discussion around each worked example and problem.
Instructors and/or students can turn on and use the new canvas feature in the app to write all over the screen--take notes, highlight key terms and ideas, show work, etc.
Guzinta Math: Measurement Conversions includes a module that explicitly addresses measurement conversions as well as two new lessons: (1) one lesson in which students investigate the area of basic shapes, such as rectangles, non-rectangular parallelograms, triangles, trapezoids, and composite shapes, and (2) one lesson in which students interpret data displayed in histograms.
